Hi Mrs P. I'm followed the link here from Photopost. I'd be glad to give you some pointers, or rather, give you my opinion on your work. I'm passionate about photography, and I'll be glad to help you develop your skill. I studied a 3 year photography diploma course ages ago, and I shoot practically every day. Ok, so let's start - my first problem with this sunset is the horizon that's not straight...
The sun is the main point of focus in this image - it would be visually more pleasing if you placed it in the top 3rd of your image, instead of just off-centre.
These are basic rules of composition that I suggest you study - you will see an immediate improvement in your images.
Hi there Thanks so much for your input. OK, the horizon: I wasn't sure how to straighten it out, but it has now been sorted. Can't believe I missed that! The whole "Rule of Thirds" thing: I only first heard about that on the day of this shot, and thought I'd give it a try. My idea was to have the clear sky in one third and the horizon and ocean in the remaining picture. I used the gridlines in my camera viewfinder and it looked great, but when I downloaded the images, saw that it did not quite work out the way I wanted. I am going to keep trying.
Thanks for the links! I will use them and keep posting!

Then also, you should always break your image up in thirds - in other words place the horizon 2 3rds up or down, but NOT in the middle of your frame.

Try Google 'image composition' - here are some useful links:
